Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate softball team makes the trip to Jacksonville, Fla. this weekend for a three-game conference series, as well as conclude a five-game road trip, against the North Florida Ospreys from the UNF Softball Complex.
The series is slated to begin on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. followed by a single game scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m.
USC Upstate started its road trip on Wednesday evening with a road doubleheader sweep at Western Carolina. The Spartans recorded victories of 10-2 in five innings in game one and 7-3 in game two. Karla Beasley led USC Upstate offensively with five hits, including two home runs, while Logan Morris added five RBI. The two home runs hit by Beasley puts her five away from tying Stacey Berrong (1996-99) for second in program history and also matches her season-high home run mark after hitting 12 as a freshman in 2015. In the circle, Christina Biggerstaff and Caylie Van Auken both picked up one win.
Beasley leads the Spartans offense this season with a .417 batting average and 12 home runs while Morris has contributed a team-leading 29 RBI. In the circle, Biggerstaff is 12-8 with a 1.77 ERA and 170 strikeouts in 138.1 innings of work.
North Florida currently sits at 20-20 on the season and 0-6 in conference play. The Ospreys are led offensively by Navia Penrod with a .453 average while Tiffany Lower has three home runs and Dominica Cocuzza 18 RBI. Sydney Matzko is 10-13 in the circle with a 2.12 ERA. UNF is under the direction of ninth-year head coach Marcie Higgs.
