
Spartans Bully Bulldogs into Submission

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team defeated South Carolina State in straight sets, 25-17, 25-7, 25-15 on Tuesday evening inside Dix Gym.

The crowd of 26 people did not have to wait long as the Spartans took care of business in an hour. USC Upstate (5-10) hit .385 in the opening set, .600 in the second set and .593 in the final set. The Spartans recorded 43 kills on 73 attacks and made just five hitting errors all night. USC Upstate ended the night with nine service aces, 39 assists, 24 digs and four team blocks in the match.

McKenna Kirkpatrick led the way offensively with 17 kills on 30 total attacks. Emily Russell added nine kills while Mikenzie Young-Mullins contributed eight kills in the contest. Annalisa Mendoza recorded 32 assists in the match and Mackenzie Marcum registered a team high seven digs. Â

South Carolina State (0-17) has now lost 29 consecutive matches dating back to last season. The Bulldogs only reached double-digit kills in the opening set against the Spartans defense. Alexus Holt recorded eight kills on 21 total attacks to lead the Bulldogs offensively. Jenai King had a team high 16 assists and T'Meyah Burgess had a team high six digs in the contest.
