CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference named USC Upstate's Jonathan Johnson (New Bern, N.C.) the Male Runner of the Week on Wednesday morning.
Â
Johnson recorded his first top-10 finish of his career at the Eye Opener Cross Country Festival this past weekend. The Tar Heel State native finished the 8-kilometer event in a time of 26:37.8. After the race Johnson said, "It's a good feeling, I have never had a top-10 finish before."
Â
This is the first Big South Runner of the Week award for Johnson in his career. Johnson is just the third Spartan to earn the honor joining Dorian Jones (West Columbia, S.C.) and Andrew Castano (Greer, S.C.).
Â
The USC Upstate cross country teams will be back in action on Saturday, October 5 at the Upstate Invite. The race is to be held at the Milliken Research Center and will start at 9:00 a.m. For more information on the Spartans cross country programs, log onto www.upstatespartans.com.
