SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's soccer coaching staff announced back in February the signing of Brody Williams, a central defensive midfielder from Simpsonville, S.C., and Jimmy James, a center midfielder from Greenville, S.C.
Williams began playing soccer in 2008 and was a four-year member of Mauldin High School's soccer team where he played varsity his last three years. He was a team captain for the 2020 season and earned the 2-AAAAA All-Region Award and Maverick Award in 2019.
He played for the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy (CESA) U19 team, which is a member of the prestigious Elite Clubs National League (ECNL), during the 2019-20 season and competed for the 2020 Super Cup.
James started his soccer career with United FC at the age of four. At age 12, he joined the CESA where he was a member of the Premier U12 and U13 teams before joining the ECNL U14 team. He then made the move to the Charlotte Independence Development Academy (formerly known as Carolina Rapids DA) where he has been a regular starter over the course of the most recent season.
As a student-athlete at Christ Church Episcopal School, James earned All-State honors as a freshman and All-Region honors as a sophomore.
