Volleyball Earns Program's 150th Division I Victory Behind D1 Era Record-Tying 17 Service Aces Against Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – Benefitting from a Division I era program record, USC Upstate volleyball captured the program's 150th victory since joining the NCAA Division ranks in 2007 with a four-set victory at Presbyterian Tuesday night.

Behind set scores of 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-14, the Spartans downed the Blue Hose to fittingly capture its 150th victory at the D1 level over the program that made the jump with Upstate on July 1, 2007.

Against the team who has ranked atop the Big South Conference with Upstate in team service aces, the Spartans tied a D1 era record with 17 service aces, the most since landing 17 winners against Savannah State on August 24, 2007. Leading to the record, all six of Upstate's primary servers landed two or more service aces with sophomore setter Emma McElveen and senior outside hitter Kelly Wiedemann tying with a match-high four winners.

Wiedemann's career-high-tying four aces contributed to a career-high-tying 19.0 points in the match as she tallied her third-consecutive double-double, tying a career-high with 15 kills and adding 15 digs. With double-doubles in each of her last three matches, she's fabricated the longest double-double streak of her career.

Nearing a double-double of her own, senior outside hitter Breeana Gamueda totaled nine kills while scooping up a team-high 23 digs—her fourth career 20-plus dig match of her career and third in 2021. Joining Gamueda and Wiedemann in double-figure digs, senior libero Mackenzie Marcum added 18 digs, as the trio has collected 10 or more digs apiece in each of the past two matches.

Sophomore middle blocker Nikki Deslatte continued her streak of matches with five or more kills and five or more total blocks, tallying six kills and five total blocks on the evening. She's now eclipsed five kills and five blocks in each of her past five matches.

Pacing the Upstate offense, McElveen dished out a match-high 20 assists while senior setter Allie Hamsher finished just behind her, adding another 19 assists.
