SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Battling mother nature and the visiting High Point Panthers, USC Upstate women's soccer benefited from goals from sophomore Ashley Finn and junior Campbell Gibson before inclement weather took hold, ending the match in the 87^th minute.

Striking in the 16^th minute, Gibson tallied her first goal in a Spartan uniform with a left-footed shot from outside the 18-yard box, pulling Upstate within a goal during an early flurry of goals to open the match. Looking to start a rally while facing a deficit, Finn tallied her seventh goal of the season in the 86^th minute to pull the Spartans closer before High Point claimed the 5-2 victory.

In goal, sophomore Cora Brendle recorded 13 saves in the match, posting back-to-back matches with double-figure save totals for the first time in her career, tallying her fourth career match with 10-plus saves.

How It Happened

2' – Taking a cross from the right side into the box, High Point's Emily Mashinski fired a shot from atop the box, tucking the ball between the goalkeeper and the near post.
14' – Winning the ball at the top of the box, the Panthers' Magdalena Schwarz turned and fired a shot, finding the back of the net near the right post.
16' – Winning back possession in the midfield, sophomore midfielder Ellie Arnold delivered a ball through the midfield finding freshman forward Rachel Satchell in Upstate's offensive end. Delivering a pass towards the sideline for junior forward Campbell Gibson who turned around a defender firing a shot with her left foot from 25 yards out for her first goal as a Spartan.
19' – Scoring in similar fashion to her first goal, Mashinski took a cross from the right side in the box at the back post, firing a shot that finished near the opposite post.
74' – As the rain began to pick up, High Point's Salome Prat fired a shot from the top of the box, finishing low right.
82' – Delivering a cross from out-wide to the top of the box, Schwarz tallied her second goal of the match with a shot from inside the box, finishing low right.
86' – From the left side, freshman forward Reece Murphree delivered a pass toward the top of the six-yard box with the pass deflecting off a Panther defender and bounding near the goal line. Taking a run toward the back post, Finn punched the ball across the line for her seventh goal of the season.
87' – As the rain continued coming down, pooling in multiple spots along the playing surface, the match was called early due to persistent rain and field conditions.

Notable

With her goal in the 16^th minute, Spartanburg Methodist transfer Campbell Gibson tallied her first goal in a Spartan uniform with a left-footed boot from 25-yards out while Ashley Finn's goal in the 86^th minute representing her seventh goal of the season.
Entering the match in the 82^nd minute, Reece Murphree tallied her second career assist on Finn's 86^th-minute goal. With the assist Wednesday, she's posted a point in each of the two matches she's appeared in this season.
Collecting 13 saves against High Point, Cora Brendle recorded double-digit saves for the fourth time in her career, posting 10-plus saves in consecutive matches for the first time in her career.
