SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate had another tough outing against High Point Friday evening, dropping match two on the back-to-back series in straight sets once again. After falling 25-16 and 25-8 in the first two sets, the Spartans would make a run in the third frame before letting it slip 25-20.
Upstate took the first point of the match on a High Point attack error in the first set, but the Panthers responded with a 6-0 run to gain a 10-3 lead. The two team exchanged runs as the Spartans took the next four points to cut their deficit to 11-7, but High Point took the next five to push its lead back up to 15-7. Upstate would later come as close as 21-13 with four straight points, but could not gain enough for the win.
After quickly dropping the second set, the Spartans bounced back in the third frame and nearly erased an early 7-1 deficit as they took four straight points to make it 20-17. From there, the two teams exchanged points as Upstate was not able to overcome the Panthers.
