
Pabsimma Wins the Big South Women’s Championship

Final Stroke Play Results
NINETY SIX, S.C. – USC Upstate sophomore golfer Beem Pabsimma (Bangkok, Thailand) won the Big South Women's Golf Championship on Friday afternoon, becoming the first Upstate golfer male or female to take home the honors.
"Beem [Pabsimma] hit great shots and even when she missed she stayed in it," USC Upstate head golf coach Todd Lawton said. "She taught me a lot about what she is capable of doing…she played her own game and I am proud of her."
"I am so happy!" Pabsimma said, "I want to say thank you to my coaches and my teammates for supporting me."
With the victory, Pabsimma automatically qualifies for the NCAA Regionals and becomes the first women's golfer to ever advance to an NCAA Regional in program history. Pabsimma recorded the second lowest tournament score in Big South history with a 210. The sophomore shot an even 72 to take home the hardware on Friday afternoon.
Pabsimma led the tournament in Par 4 scoring (-1) and finished second in Par 5 scoring (-6). The sophomore finished second overall with 15 total birdies in the three round event.
Freshman golfer Praew Nontarux (Lampang, Thailand) finished right outside the top-10 in the stroke play event with a total tournament score of 223. Pan Paksanont (Nonthaburi, Thailand) finished tied for 16th overall in the tournament, carding her best round (74) of the tournament on Friday afternoon. Paksanont led the team with 34 pars in the tournament.
Suwarin Yord-In (Bangkok, Thailand) finished just outside the top-25 with a final round score of 75 in the three round event. Abigayle Hatcher (Roebuck, S.C.) rounded out the Spartans team with an 83 in the final round of action.
As a team, the Spartans finished second overall after the third round of stroke play and will advance to match play tomorrow morning. USC Upstate will play the three-seed Gardner-Webb at 8:05 a.m., the two teams will start the round on the 10th hole. If the Spartans defeat Gardner-Webb, they will advance to the finals against either No. 1 Campbell or No. 4 High Point. By the end of Saturday, a Big South Champion will be crowned.
