SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate head women's soccer coach
Tyson John and staff have announced the signing of Katherine Cunningham (Ewell, Surrey, U.K.), Nora Vagsnes (Blommenholm, Norway), and Claudia Mendinhas (O´bidos, Leiria, Portugal) to the 2021 Spartan roster.
Katherine Cunningham, a 5-5 striker, makes her way from the University of Portsmouth in the United Kingdom.
"Katherine will make an immediate impact here at Upstate, as she has played with prestigious clubs like Reading and Portsmouth. A true striker in every sense of the word, as she has the soccer IQ and technique to be very dangerous! Her speed and decision making will allow her more opportunities to find herself in front of goal." Coach
Tyson John stated.
Nora Vangsnes comes to Upstate from Norway, where she attended Norges Toppidrettsgymnas Bærum.
"Nora has a great ability to read the game! She is a player that utilizes her technique so that she can read situations before they unfold. She is a constant threat both on and off the ball, and when she finds herself in tight situations, she has the ability to maneuver effortlessly. Another player that we are excited to add to the team as she too can play in the defense, midfield, and/or on the wing" Coach
Tyson John said.
Claudia Mendinhas joins the Spartans from Escola EB2,3 Josefa de O´bidos in Portugal.
"As the current Portugal U-17 captain, Claudia has reached a level that most players dream about in representing your country on the international stage. This is a product of her dedication and ambition to continue to grow as a person and as a player. Her technical abilities have been developed and refined at one of the most renown clubs in Portugal with S.L. Benfica. She will be able to fulfill multiple roles in her time here at Upstate" Coach
Tyson John stated.
