The lone meeting in the series came on Nov. 10, 2018, in Upstate's 2018-19 home opener with the Spartans winning 86-43 with Malik Moore leading the way with 20 points, becoming the 24th member of Upstate's 1,000-Point Club.

February 22, 2022: Covenant 78; Brevard 49

Players to Watch
Upstate: Following up on his Big South Freshman of the Year, Second Team All-Big South, and Big South All-Freshman Team honors from last season, sophomore guard Jordan Gainey added to his career accolades as he earned Preseason First Team All-Big South honors in late October as the team was announced at Big South Media Day. With the honor, he became the first Spartan to earn First Team Preseason honors since Upstate joined the Big South (2018-19 to pres.) and the fourth Spartan to earn Preseason All-Big South honors.

Brevard: Averaging 12.0 points and 3.9 rebounds per game while shooting 42.3 percent from the field and 33.7 percent from three, junior guard LB Boyette returns after leading the Tornados in scoring last season. A 2021-22 Second Team All-USA South West Division selection, he posted 16 double-figure scoring games—including one in an exhibition against UNC Asheville—while posting 20-plus points on two occasions, including a 31-point outing against Berea on Dec. 11, 2021.

UP Next for the Spartans
After opening the season at home for the first time since 2020-21, the Spartans hit the road for the first time Friday as they travel to Durham, N.C. to matchup against Duke inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. Friday's meeting marks the first time in the Spartans' Division I era.
