How It Happened
First Quarter
  • Opening the game's scoring, Upstate's Jada Logan sliced the basket and converted a driving layup to give her team the early lead. Hampton answered back with a 6-0 scoring run to flip the advantage before Rachael Rose went coast-to-coast to trim the lead and force a Pirate timeout.
  • Seeing Hampton build its largest lead of the game at six points, Denijsha Wilson cut the Spartans' deficit to three with a trey from the wing. The three pumped up the Upstate defense, leading to the Spartans holding the Pirates without a field goal over the final four minutes of the quarter.
  • Closing the quarter, Upstate finished on a 6-0 scoring run to regain the lead for the final time. Wilson led the run, scoring four of the six points and seven of the Spartans' final nine points of the quarter. Following Wilson's wing three, Upstate outscored Hampton 9-2 to close the quarter and take the lead.
Second Quarter
  • Building upon its scoring run to end the first quarter, Upstate opened the second quarter on a 5-0 scoring stretch, extending its overall run to 11 points. The 11-0 scoring run spanning the two quarters was the longest of the game for the Spartans.
  • Pushing its lead to nine—its largest lead of the first half—Upstate used a second 5-0 scoring run to take a 25-16 lead. Using a 7-0 scoring run of its own, Hampton pulled within two behind its longest scoring run of the first half.
  • Seeing their lead trimmed to one with 56 seconds remaining in the half, the Spartans crafted a four-point halftime lead as Wilson converted an and-1 opportunity to score the final three points of the half, putting her in double-figures for the game.
Third Quarter
  • Creating its largest lead of the game, 11 points, Upstate opened the half on an 11-4 scoring stretch to take a 40-29 lead with 6:58 to play in the quarter. Spurring the run, the Spartans heated up from three, making their first three attempts of the quarter and exceeding its three-point total from the first half.
  • Clawing back to within a point heading into the final minute of the quarter, the Pirates embarked on a 12-2 scoring run to trim the lead to 42-41. Logan snapped the Pirate scoring stretch with a layup, giving Upstate a three-point lead into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
  • Opening the fourth quarter, the Spartans outscored the Pirates 11-6 over the period's first five minutes. Splitting the scoring stretch, Upstate saw a 5-0 scoring run with a Molly Coleman layup and a Logan three fashioning the run.
  • Using its largest scoring run of the game, Hampton forced one final tie at 55-all behind an 8-0 scoring run consisting of four consecutive field goals.
  • Building back its lead and working to put the game away, Upstate closed the game with a 10-4 scoring advantage. During the stretch, each of the Spartans' 10 points came from the free throw line as Upstate closed the game shooting 10-of-11 from the charity stripe.

Notable
  • Earning its fourth straight victory and its seventh win during Big South play, extending its Big South era (2018-pres.) record for conference victories. The Spartans' seven league wins in 2021-22 are the most for the program since winning 10 ASUN games in 2015-16.
  • Posting 19 points to lead Upstate against Hampton, senior guard Denijsha Wilson posted a season-high scoring total, scoring in double-figures for the second time this season. She also tallied six rebounds in the game, another season-high total.
  • Seeing four Spartans reach double-figures, Upstate extended its streak of games with multiple double-figure scorers to 24 games, including all 20 games this season. With four double-figure scorers against Hampton, the Spartans have seen four double-figure scorers over each of the last three games.
