How It Happened
After beginning the rematch portion of the team's Big South schedule with a victory, Upstate couldn't quite carry its momentum from sets three and four Friday evening into the latter portion of the team's back-to-back. The Spartans, however, remained persistent, battling back multiple times—especially in set three—to cut into multi-point Panther advantages.
Â
Offensively, the Spartans did not see a player reach double-figure kills for the first time since its match at College of Charleston on Sept. 7. Senior outside hitter Ashleigh Nicoll kept up her momentum from Friday's match, when she totaled eight kills over the final two frames, leading Upstate with nine kills against High Point, fashioning her total behind a .222 hitting efficiency.
Â
Behind Nicoll, the team's attack was balanced as junior middle blocker Ady O'Grady, junior right-side hitter Savannah Page, and graduate student outside hitter Allison Palmi registered five kills apiece with junior middle blocker Alona Clinansmith contributing four. Freshman setter Kamyla Vega David passed out 22 assists directing the offense.
Â
On the defensive side of the ball, senior libero Julia Gladhill led all Spartans with 10 digs, tying for the match lead. Just missing double-figure balls scooped were Page and redshirt senior defensive specialist Caroline Cleveland who picked up nine balls each.
Â
Up Next for the Spartans
Following its two-match road swing, Upstate returns home to the G.B. Hodge Center, seeing five of its final six matches played at home. The homestand begins with matches versus Presbyterian and Charleston Southern on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2, respectively.
