CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Capturing the program's fourth Big South Freshman of the Week honor through the first five weeks of the 2024-25 season, USC Upstate men's basketball's Carmelo Adkins garnered his second consecutive conference weekly award as the league announced its weekly winners Monday afternoon.
Â
With Adkins' second consecutive Big South Freshman of the Week honor, the 2024-25 season is the first in the program's Division I era (2007-pres.) to see multiple players win multiple Freshman of the Week honors in the same season. He becomes the seventh Spartan to capture multiple conference Newcomer/Freshman of the Week honors in the D1 era, joining Mister Dean in doing so during the 2024-25 campaign.
Â
Adkins, a native of Lubbock, Texas, led the Spartans in scoring and rebounding last week, averaging 15.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. He fashioned his scoring totals behind 56.3 percent (9-of-16) shooting from the field and 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from beyond the arc. He opened his week with a career day against Brevard, posting 17 points—one shy of his career-high—a career-high seven rebounds, a career-high four three-pointers made, a career-high three assists, and a career-high one steal. He finished the week with 14 points and five rebounds against Western Carolina, adding a career-high one block and a career-high one steal.
