Farmville, Va. - Returning to road play in the Big South, USC Upstate Men's Basketball battled with Longwood for an afternoon matchup in the Joan Perry Brock Center. USC Upstate opened the first half with huge momentum as Carmelo Adkins opened with a fastbreak three-pointer to score the first basket. The Spartans continued to attack the Lancers by going on an 11-0 run to lead by nine. The first half momentum was highlighted with the Spartans pushing the pace while forcing the Lancers to take uncomfortable shots causing Longwood to shoot 18 percent from beyond the arc through the opening half. Longwood shook off the rust in the second half to outscore USC Upstate 50-22 carrying their momentum to a final score of 80-54.
Karmani Gregory opened the first half with nine points and had some assistance from the bench with Nic Book following with six points. The Spartans outdueled the Lancers in the first half shooting 48 percent overall compared to Longwood's 39 percent. Andrew McConnell tied his season high leading the Spartan scoring with 12 Points while securing his season and career high with six rebounds, along with his career high with four free throws made. Karmani Gregory followed with his second consecutive double digit game with 11 Points.
