Four Different Spartans Score in Women's Soccer Victory Over South Carolina State

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Facing South Carolina State in the final non-conference match of the season, USC Upstate women's soccer defeated the Bulldogs 4-0.

Dara Russo started the scoring for the Spartans, netting her sixth goal of the season from seamless passing by Maddy DeCola and Riley O'Bryan. Six minutes later, Paige Armstrong found the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season. Russo put up four shots, three on goal, and Armstrong added three shots of her own, two aimed on target.

In the second half, Morgan de Barros scored her second career goal off assists from Maddie Smith and Ella Jahromi. Netting her seventh goal of the season, Riley O'Bryan put one home off a dime from Maddie Smith for the final Spartan goal of the night.

Caroline Simpkins led the team in shots with seven, three on goal. Angie Banks added five shots, followed by Morgan Nelson with five, three of which were aimed on target.

How It Happened
1st Half: Paige Armstrong took the first shot of the match at the 16-minute mark. Dara Russo followed, but her shot was saved by the keeper. At the 18-minute mark, Dara Russo put one past the keeper, assisted by Maddy DeCola and Riley O'Bryan. Paige Armstrong scored from distance at the 24-minute mark. Almost a minute later, Audrey Baer took a shot, but it was saved. Marley Gerber made her only save of the night at the 35-minute mark.
2nd Half: Out of the halftime break, Upstate wasted no time on offense, with Dara Russo firing off a shot a minute in, but it was saved by the keeper. Riley O'Bryan followed, but her shot was also saved. Taking four consecutive shots was Caroline Simpkins, three of which were saved by the South Carolina State keeper. Madison Ejgird made her only save of the night at the 60-minute mark. At the 74-minute mark, Morgan de Barros put one past the keeper, assisted by Ella Jahromi and Maddie Smith. A minute later, Riley O'Bryan found the back of the net, assisted once again by Maddie Smith.
