Riley O'Bryan Nets Fifth Goal of the Season in a Close Contest at Radford

RADFORD, Va. – Traveling to Virginia for their fourth conference match of the season, USC Upstate women's soccer faced the Radford Highlanders in a closely contested match. The Spartans held the shot advantage with 17, but ultimately dropped this contest 2-1.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half. The Spartans struck first out of the break, with Riley O'Bryan netting the lone goal off a free kick taken by Hannah Johnson. O'Bryan led the team in shots with four, two being on goal. Catarina Dantas registered three shots, all on goal, followed by Emily Rangel, who added two shots on target.

Savannah Noll and Caroline Simpkins each took two shots, with one on goal.

How It Happened
1st Half: Upstate took the first shot of the game two minutes in, but Riley O'Bryan sent it high. Emily Rangel took her first shot of the night at the 11-minute mark, only for it to be saved by the Radford keeper. At the 20-minute mark, Caroline Simpkins took her first shot of the night, but it was once again saved by the keeper. Madison Ejgird made a save just minutes later, keeping the score at 0-0. At the 40-minute mark, Catarina Dantas took aim at the goal, but her shot was saved by the keeper. Raegan Bell registered a shot minutes later, but it was also saved by the keeper. With less than a minute before the break, Madison Ejgird had a big-time save to keep the score tied at zero.

2nd Half: Two minutes into the second half, Hannah Johnson took the free kick for Upstate, sending the ball to Riley O'Bryan, who snuck one past the keeper. Radford tried to answer a few minutes later, but Madison Ejgird recorded her third save of the night. Radford scored their first goal of the night at the 66-minute mark, quickly followed by a shot from Paige Armstrong that was saved. Upstate continued an offensive attack, but the Highlanders capitalized on a penalty kick at the 78 minute to give them the 2-1 advantage.
