Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Daniel Helterhoff adds his career high in the regular season road finale at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Returning to the court for their final regular season road game in High Point, North Carolina, Upstate Men's Basketball battled High Point University for a midweek clash with three players scoring in double figures.  

The Spartans were led by Brit Harris adding 16 Points off the bench while shooting 5-for-13 from the field, 4-for-9 from the three-point line, and 100 percent from the charity stripe. Daniel Helterhoff followed with his career high of 15 points while shooting 5-for-10 from the field, 50 percent from beyond the arc, and 2-for-3 from the charity stripe. Mister Dean added 11 points with six rebounds, four steals, and one block.  

High Point outran the Spartans with 16 fastbreak points compared to Upstate's 11. The Panthers got many players involved with 45 bench points and Upstate tacking 26. The Paint was the Panthers' bread and butter through the game outdueling the Spartans with 46 points in the paint compared to the Spartans' 18.

How it Happened 

First Half 

  • The Spartans opened the first half attacking the paint with Daniel Helterhoff drawing a foul sending him to the charity stripe going 2-for-2. Upstate looked to match the intensity of High Point but the Panthers added a 14-4 jumping ahead 21-9. 

  • The Spartans began to find their footing with Mister Dean halting the run with a dunk followed by a three-pointer from Brit Harris

  • High Point moved their lead to 20 with multiple three-pointers and layups to lead 39-19.  

Second Half 

  • Daniel Helterhoff opened the second half scoring the first five points for the Spartans with a three-pointer and layup looking to creep into High Point's lead. 

  • The Panthers responded with a 14-0 run with running the floor for multiple fastbreak layups and a three-pointer outpacing the Spartans and pushing the lead further in their favor. 

  • Andrew McConnell and Brit Harris followed with two consecutive three-pointers to try to slow the Panthers' offensive attack down. High Point followed with two fastbreak scores and a three-pointer to lead 80-50. 

  • Upstate finished the game scoring the last 16 points with help from CJ Rich and Chico Johnson leading the charge. 

Notable 

  • Daniel Helterhoff has surpassed his career high three times this season each scoring in double digits since entering the starting lineup in late Janaury. 

  • With their final game in February, the Spartans look to clash for one more home game in the Hodge Center.

The Spartans will return to the court for their regular season home finale against Big South opponent, Longwood University for an afternoon matchup at the G.B. Hodge Center with a scheduled tip at 2:00 P.M.
