Spartan Family:
One of the busiest months of the year is upon us—March! It feels like just yesterday we were ringing in the new year. This is one of our two "crossover" seasons, as we wrap up winter sports while spring sports are already in full swing. The warmth of spring is in the air—though we've had our fair share of rain and even some snow mixed in!
I want to publicly thank our staff, student workers, and faculty members who play a crucial role in making USC Upstate Athletics successful. The long hours and dedication—especially during this time of year—do not go unnoticed. This department knows how to put our heads down and get the job done!
After getting off to a great start, including knocking off ACC-foe Boston College on opening day, our baseball team will once again head to Greenville to take on Clemson at Fluor Field, home of the Greenville Drive, on Tuesday, March 4. Tickets are on sale now. We will return to Fluor Field later in the month, as we take on our cross-town rival the Wofford Terriers on March 19. Then, in collaboration with Spartanburg's newest minor league team, the Hub City Spartanburgers, we are excited to announce the first-ever baseball game at Fifth Third Park, once again showcasing Spartanburg's two Division I programs—Wofford College and USC Upstate. The game is set for Tuesday, April 1 and surely will be a fun-filled evening in downtown Spartanburg!

Soak this one in @ksweeney17 because there's no win quite like your first!

Over on the other diamond, our defending Big South Champion Spartans softball team is off to a historic 15-1 start, currently riding a 12-game winning streak, including a doubleheader sweep of Furman earlier this week. With six of their last 11 games ending in run-rule victories, there's been no shortage of offense! Softball is on the road this weekend at the Coach Cooke Memorial Tournament, hosted at Winthrop.
Additionally, our Track & Field team heads to Columbia this week for the Big South Indoor Championships, and we're wishing them all the best as they compete for the title!

On the hardwood, it's been an exciting few weeks for our men's and women's basketball programs. The men's team donned special edition Hub City uniforms and pulled off a big road win over a strong Charleston Southern squad. Meanwhile, the women's team put together an impressive three-game win streak in mid-February. Our final regular season matchup is tomorrow, as our men's team hosts Longwood here at the Hodge, tipping at 2 pm.
And speaking of basketball—don't forget to grab your Big South Basketball Championship tickets! The tournament will take place at Freedom Hall Civic Center in Johnson City, Tenn. We hope to see plenty of Spartan green in the stands!
As always, thank you for your continued support, and GO SPARTANS!
Matt
