Men’s Soccer highlighted with four players being featured on the Big South Midseason Watch List

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - As the 2025 campaign continues to grow with conference play on the horizon, the Big South has released the Midseason watch list which can include up to five players from each team included on the list with preseason player of the player of the years having the automatic selection. Based on the performances prior to the non-conference matches played to date, Upstate Men's Soccer had Oscar Kelly, Lucas Bergfors, Ewan Tomas, and Jarrett Wuerlsin named to the Watch List.

Oscar Kelly: Named to the Watch List from the Forwards

The Freshman from Manchester, England has continued settling into his role with Upstate as he leads the Spartans with three goals, six points, .250 shot percentage, and .417 shot on goal percentage. Kelly's play through seven matches earns him the nod as a midseason player to watch as the Spartans turn their attention to conference play beginning Saturday, September 20 hosting UNC Asheville. With 616 minutes logged, Kelly has proven that he is not afraid of the bright lights already have a game-winner to his stat line where he converted a game-winning penalty kick over South Carolina. Oscar Kelly will continue to be a player to watch as he looks to find more opportunities to help the Spartans succeed through the season.

Lucas Bergfors: Named to the Watch List from the Midfielders

The Freshman from Nyköping, Sweden continues to pose a threat to opposing teams through seven matches played with one goal and two assists. Bergfors has the speed that makes defenders miss and has no problem setting up a teammate for a scoring opportunity. With 374 minutes logged, Bergfors will continue to grow in his collegiate career as he was the first Spartan of the 2025-26 calendar year to be named Freshman of the Week by Big South and now follows with being named to the Midseason Watch List.

Ewan Tomas: Named to the Watch List from the Defenders

The Sophomore from St. Pierre de chandieu, France originally was watching from the sidelines as he waited to be cleared to play in his new home at Upstate. Tomas quickly entered the fray as Head Coach Michael Antoniewicz was ecstatic for the world to see the talent that he would display for the program. Standing at six feet tall, Tomas' quick feet followed by his IQ has quickly become a positive for the Spartans in the three matches played. In the win over Wofford, Ewan Tomas may have not had stats that showed in the box score but his impact on making attackers change directions making it uncomfortable for opposing teams to score adds a threat needed in the back line. With his impact through three matches played, Tomas adds his first honor being named the Big South Midseason Watch list.

Jarrett Wuerslin: Named to the Watch List from the Goalkeepers

Through seven matches started and 630 minutes, the Sophomore from Charlotte, North Carolina has become a familiar name that is heard for Upstate Men's Soccer. Jarrett Wuerslin leads the Big South with 34 saves and saves per game (4.86). Wuerslin is a high energy player who has continued to show growth with his last two matches being his season highs in saves with nine against Elon and six against Wofford. With the knowledge of proven Assistant Coach/Goalkeepers' Coach, Tony Vu, he has put the trust into Jarrett Wuerslin being the guy who can keep the Spartans at ease defensively. With two wins in goal and already being named the Big South Defensive player of the week once on the season, Wuerslin adds another honor in his sophomore season and will continue to show growth as conference play opens.
