
Spartans Fall to Presbyterian in Four Sets

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate volleyball dropped a 3-1 decision to Presbyterian on Saturday afternoon at the G.B. Hodge Center, falling by set scores of 25-19, 25-22, 20-25 and 25-22 in Big South Conference action.
The Spartans battled throughout the opening two sets but came up short as Presbyterian took a 2-0 lead. Upstate responded in the third set, putting together a strong performance to earn a 25-20 victory and extend the match. Presbyterian answered in the fourth, pulling away late to secure the four-set win.
Kensley Haneline led the Spartans offensively with 16 kills while hitting .364. Sophia Spivey added 12 kills, and Summer Kohler finished with 10. Kamyla Vega David orchestrated the Upstate offense with 33 assists, while Hannah Campbell contributed 28 digs. Tien Murray led the Spartans at the net with five block assists.
Upstate finished with 53 kills as a team and recorded eight service aces. Despite the setback, the Spartans showed resilience by responding after dropping the first two sets and forcing a fourth-set battle.
The loss moves USC Upstate to 8-8 overall and 1-4 in Big South play. The Spartans will look to bounce back as conference play continues at Gardner-Webb on Friday, October 16.
