Box Score

GREENVILLE, S.C. – USC Upstate men's soccer dropped a 7-1 decision to Furman Tuesday evening at Stone Soccer Stadium in its final stretch of the 2026 regular season.

Freshman Jaami Qureshi netted his first goal of the season for the Spartans, while Tolu Fabamifobee recorded the assist. Goalkeeper Jarrett Wuerslin finished with seven saves in 75 minutes of action, while Kahaku Yamashita added a save in relief.

With the result, USC Upstate moves to 4-11-0 overall and remains 2-3-0 in Big South Conference play, while Furman improves to 6-3-4 on the season.

Furman opened the scoring early in the contest, finding the back of the net in the sixth minute as Caleb Johnson gave the Paladins a 1-0 advantage. Just over two minutes later, Wilfer Bustamante doubled the home team's lead with a goal in the eighth minute.

The Spartans responded in the 18th minute when Qureshi found the back of the net off a feed from Fabamifobee, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The goal marked Qureshi's first of the 2026 campaign and provided Upstate with momentum midway through the opening half.

However, the Spartans were forced to play a man down following a red card issued to David Palade in the 18th minute. Furman capitalized on the advantage, scoring three additional goals before halftime to take a 5-1 lead into the break.

Despite the disadvantage, Upstate continued to battle throughout the second half. Wuerslin made four additional saves after halftime before Yamashita entered the match in the 76th minute and added another stop.

The Paladins extended their lead in the 56th minute on Grayson Travis' second goal of the evening before Bustamante completed his hat trick in the 74th minute to secure the 7-1 final.

Furman finished the contest with a 30-3 advantage in shots, including a 15-3 edge in shots on goal. Oscar Kelly and Josh Zawlocki joined Qureshi in registering shots on target for the Spartans.
