SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate men's soccer midfielder Henry Burt has been named the Big South Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon, following his standout performance in the Spartans' 2-1 road victory over UNC Asheville on Saturday.
Burt played a pivotal role in securing three crucial conference points for the Spartans, scoring both of Upstate's goals, including the eventual game-winner, to help lift the team past the Bulldogs.
The midfielder wasted little time making his presence felt, opening the scoring in the 13th minute. Burt found the back of the net off assists from Josh Zawlocki and Oscar Kelly, giving the Spartans an early 1-0 advantage.
Burt struck again in the 55th minute, capitalizing on a scoring opportunity created by Kelly and Jacob Cromedy to double Upstate's lead. The goal proved to be the difference as UNC Asheville answered in the 61st minute, but the Spartans held on to secure the 2-1 victory.
The midfielder finished the afternoon with two goals on three shots, placing both of his shots on target in the back of the net. Burt played 71 minutes and recorded four points in the contest, helping Upstate improve to 3-3 in Big South Conference play and clinching the squad a spot in the Big South Conference Tournament.
His two-goal performance marked his first multi-goal outing of the season and helped the Spartans earn a valuable road victory as they continue their push toward the Big South Conference Tournament.
