Dance Prepares for Nationals, Hosting Showcase April 4th

ORLANDO, Fla. – Competing for the first time as a varsity program, USC Upstate Dance heads to The College Classic National Championship, held April 10-12.
The Spartans are hosting a Nationals Showcase on April 4th, beginning at 2:00 pm. Doors open at 1:30 pm, and tickets are $5 dollars for general admission. It is free of charge for USC Upstate staff, faculty, and students.
The Nationals Showcase will include performances from Newberry, USC Upstate, and Lander.
After the showcase, the team heads down to Orlando Florida to begin competition on Friday, April 10.
Spirit Showdown – Rally Dance
The first competition the Spartans compete in is Spirit Showdown - Rally Dance. This competition is a way teams can show off school spirit, incorporating school-specific props, words, and other items.
Teams: Abilene Christian, University of South Alabama, Southern Utah, Saginaw Valley State, USC Upstate, Middle Tennessee State, Concordia University-Chicago, Morehead State
Info: The Spartans compete at 6:40 pm on Friday in Arena A. An awards ceremony will follow after all teams have performed, beginning around 8:30 pm.
Competition – Division I Small Hip-Hop
New to The College Classic this year is the Division I Small Hip-Hop Competition. This competition has a preliminary and final round. The teams will be judged on categories such as hip hop technique, difficulty of hip hop movement, overall movement quality, execution of style, spacing and transitions, musicality, and uniqueness of concept/movement.
Teams: Toledo, Wright State, Eastern Michigan, Mount Saint Mary's. Akron, Lamar, Southern Mississippi, Austin Peay State, Jackson State, Winthrop, Marist, USC Upstate
Info: The Spartans compete in the preliminary round on Saturday, April 11th at 9:06 am in Arena B. The finals consist of 50% of teams from the preliminary round, and finals are held on Sunday, April 12th, anywhere from 8:00 am – 9:06 am. Awards are held later that night at 9:35 pm in Arena A.
