Cansu Kara Named Big South Defensive Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate women's soccer defender Cansu Kara has been named the Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Kara earns the conference honor following another strong week on the back line for the Spartans, helping anchor an Upstate defense that allowed just one goal across its matches.
Against Longwood, Kara contributed on both ends of the field, recording one goal and one assist for the Spartans. Her offensive production complemented another strong defensive performance as she continued to help organize the Upstate back line and limit opposing scoring opportunities.
Kara's performance continues a strong stretch for the Upstate defense as the Spartans move deeper into Big South Conference play.
The Defensive Player of the Week honor marks the latest recognition for the Spartans during the 2026 campaign, and the second time a Spartan has been named Defensive Player of the Week.
