ELON, N.C. – USC Upstate men's soccer saw its three-match winning streak come to an end Tuesday evening, falling 3-1 to Elon at Rudd Field. The Spartans moved to 3-7-0 on the season following the non-conference matchup, while Elon improved to 5-2-2. game_report_2026-09-29_183142

Elon struck early, taking a 1-0 advantage in the fifth minute as Weston Jonke found the back of the net. Upstate responded by creating a pair of quality chances in the opening half, with David Palade forcing a save in the 11th minute before Jalen Moore put another attempt on frame in the 27th. game_report_2026-09-29_183142 game_report_2026-09-29_183142

The Spartans found their equalizer in the 58th minute. Caedon Reynolds helped create the opportunity before finding Jayden Montgomery, who finished with his right foot to pull Upstate level at 1-1. game_report_2026-09-29_183142

The match turned in Elon's favor late in the second half. The Phoenix were awarded a penalty in the 67th minute, with Oscar Tonidandel converting from the spot to restore the hosts' advantage. Upstate was also reduced to 10 men following a red card to Luke Marin on the play. Despite playing a man down, Upstate continued to push forward. Xibbe Willem Van Hattem put an attempt on target in the 79th minute, but Elon goalkeeper Drew Hartman made the save to keep the Spartans from cutting into the deficit. game_report_2026-09-29_183142

Elon finished the night with a 19-5 advantage in shots and an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. The Phoenix also held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Jarrett Wuerslin played all 90 minutes in goal for the Spartans, recording five saves, while Hartman made four saves for Elon.
