Daniel Gernon enters his first season as an assistant coach at USC Upstate during the 2025 season after being announced to the coaching staff on Aug. 19, 2024.
Gernon joins the Spartan coaching staff following two seasons competing in the Green and Black where he appeared in 116 games for Upstate over the past two seasons. He started 111 of the 116 games in which he appeared, including all 58 games he played during the 2024 season.
Â
His two seasons in an Upstate uniform coincided with the winningest two-season stretch in the program's history, winning a combined 74 games—38 wins in 2023 and 36 wins in 2024—during the stretch with both seasons culminating in appearances in the Big South Baseball Tournament Championship Game.
Â
Gernon fashioned a three-slash line of .292/.427/.470 during his Spartan career, slugging 14 home runs, driving home 71 runs, scoring 122 runs, and swiping 30 bags. He ended his Upstate career tied for third in the program's Division I era (2007-pres.) in career steals, ranked fifth in career runs scored, and tied for eighth in career home runs. He also concluded his career as the most successful base stealer in the D1 era, swiping 30 bases in 31 attempts.
Â
He joined the Upstate program after spending his first three collegiate seasons at Lower Columbia College where he captured American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Pacific Association and Northwest Athletic Conference Gold Gloves.

A native of Cloverdale, British Columbia, Gernon graduated from USC Upstate in 2024.
