- Volunteer Assistant Coach
Michael Meissner enters his firstyear as a volunteer assistant coach for the Spartans during the2012-13 season. The USC Upstate graduate is no stranger to theSpartan athletic department as he was named the 2010-11 UpstateMale Student-Athlete of the Year, during his senior campaign. Hemade an immediate impact during the 2011 indoor season and won theA-Sun Championship in the 400-meter dash, capping a successfulweekend for the Spartans. Meissner also anchored the 4x400-meterrelay team that finished second at the 2011 A-SunChampionships.
He had a strong performance duringthe 2011 outdoor season as well. The defending champion in the400-meters at the 2010 A-Sun Outdoor Championships, he claimed athird-place finish at the A-Sun meet in 2011, earning Third TeamAll-Conference honors. He again anchored the 4x400-meter relay teamto a second-place finish at the 2011 A-Sun OutdoorChampionships.
Meissner earned hisbachelor’s in Political Science from Upstate and received theEarl Gordon Medal, the highest award given out to a student at theuniversity’s Student Affairs Awards Ceremony.
