In his first season as a full-time assistant coach in 2026, Cullison helped Upstate continue its historic run as the Spartans captured their second consecutive Big South Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional. The appearance marked the second straight NCAA Tournament berth for the program after making its NCAA Division I Tournament debut the previous season.
The Spartans continued making history during the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional, earning the first NCAA Tournament victory in program history with an 8-5 win over No. 2 seed Oklahoma State. The victory helped Upstate advance to the third day of regional play and capped another milestone season for the program.
Cullison began his coaching career as a student assistant at Upstate in 2025, working primarily with the Spartans' offense and infield defense while serving as the team's first base coach. He helped Upstate capture the first Big South regular-season and tournament championships in program history before earning the program's first NCAA Division I Tournament berth and competing in the NCAA Clemson Regional.
Under Cullison's assistance, the Upstate offense ranked among the top 30 nationally in 11 statistical categories during the 2025 season. The Spartans led the NCAA in sacrifice flies while ranking second nationally in hits and runs and third in scoring. Upstate finished the season with a .315 team batting average while producing 685 hits, 569 runs, 140 doubles and 101 home runs.
Prior to joining the coaching staff, Cullison spent four seasons as an infielder for the Spartans from 2021-24, establishing himself as one of the most successful base stealers of Upstate's Division I era. Cullison helped the Spartans reach the Big South Tournament Championship Game for the first time in program history during the 2023 season. Upstate collected a then-program-record 38 overall victories and a program-best 21 conference victories for a non-40-game conference schedule. His speed helped an Upstate offense establish a program record with 110 stolen bases during the campaign.
