- Athletic Trainer
Ge’Ona Witcher joined the USC Upstate sports medicine staff in 2026 after gaining clinical experience with several athletic programs at Marshall University.
Witcher worked most recently with Marshall’s volleyball program, independently managing the care of 10 student-athletes during the 2025 spring season. She provided injury evaluations, treatments and practice coverage while developing maintenance plans for chronic injuries and coordinating medical appointments. Witcher also worked with Marshall’s men’s basketball and football programs, assisting with rehabilitation for acute, chronic and postoperative injuries, treatment modalities, game-day preparation and visiting-team coordination.
In addition to her athletic training experience, Witcher worked as an operations support specialist at ATI Physical Therapy in Spartanburg. In that role, she assisted patients with exercises, monitored their progress and supported physical therapists with scheduling, documentation and treatment-area preparation.
Witcher earned her Master of Science in Athletic Training from Marshall in 2025, following her Bachelor of Education in Kinesiology from the University of Kentucky. While at Marshall, she served as treasurer of the university’s Athletic Training Association and completed capstone research examining the effects of declining mental health on the clinical performance of graduate students in athletic training.
Witcher also earned second place for her case study on Parsonage-Turner Syndrome at both the West Virginia Athletic Trainers’ Association meeting and the Jose Richard Conference, where she was selected as a scholarship recipient.
She is a certified athletic trainer and holds certifications in CPR, AED and adult mental health first aid.
