Jake Armsey enters his first season on the USC Upstate baseball staff in 2027, serving as the program's Director of Player Development following a five-year playing career with the Spartans.
Armsey transitions into his new role after concluding his playing career in 2026, a season that saw the infielder start all 64 games for the Spartans. He posted a .305 batting average, .405 on-base percentage and .432 slugging percentage while collecting 74 hits, 55 runs, 19 doubles, four home runs and 51 RBI. He also drew 41 walks while recording 22 multi-hit games and 12 multi-RBI games.
His final season helped USC Upstate capture its second consecutive Big South Tournament Championship and advance to its second straight NCAA Regional. Armsey concluded his career tied for the program's Division I era record with 138 runs scored while establishing the Division I era career record with 105 walks.
As a redshirt junior in 2025, Armsey appeared in and started 45 games, hitting .285 with a .376 on-base percentage and .436 slugging percentage. He totaled 47 hits, 41 runs, nine doubles, two triples, four home runs and 35 RBI while drawing 23 walks. He recorded 12 multi-hit games and eight multi-RBI performances and put together a career-long 14-game reached-base streak.
Armsey helped the Spartans make program history during the 2025 campaign as Upstate captured its first Big South regular-season and tournament championships before earning the program's first NCAA Division I Tournament berth and competing in the NCAA Clemson Regional.
During the 2024 season, Armsey appeared in 45 games and made 39 starts, finishing the year with 32 hits, 35 runs, five doubles, one triple, five home runs and 19 RBI. He reached base at a .424 clip, drew 31 walks and went a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen-base attempts. He recorded nine multi-hit games and five multi-RBI games during the campaign.
Armsey made his collegiate debut during the 2023 season after redshirting as a freshman in 2022. As a redshirt freshman, he appeared in 27 games and made 13 starts, collecting 11 hits, seven runs and nine RBI while drawing 10 walks. He also went a perfect 6-for-6 on stolen-base attempts and made his USC Upstate debut as a pinch hitter against Michigan State on Feb. 24, 2023.
Across his four seasons of game action at Upstate, Armsey appeared in 181 games and made 161 starts. He finished his Spartan career with 164 hits, 138 runs, 33 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs and 114 RBI. He also drew 105 walks and stole 13 bases. His career included two NCAA Tournament appearances and two Big South Tournament championships.
A native of Akron, Ohio, Armsey attended Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, where he earned four varsity letters. He earned First Team All-State and First Team All-District honors as a sophomore after hitting .506 and also competed for Release Baseball on the travel circuit.
