Jennifer Keiner is in her third season as an assistant tennis coach at USC Upstate.
Keiner’s appointment at Upstate provided immediate dividends, as she helped two Spartans earn Atlantic Sun All-Conference honors in 2014. Isabel von Stryk put together a team-best 12-6 overall record in singles play to tie for the third-most victories of any player in the A-Sun. In addition, von Stryk posted a 5-2 record in league play and was tied for the second-most wins of anyone in the conference. Von Stryk was honored at the end of the season by earning All-Atlantic Sun first team accolades, becoming the first Spartan since 2009 to earn that distinction.
Keiner also helped usher in newcomer Anna Zoske, who finished her first season in a Spartan uniform tied for second on the team with seven singles victories. Zoske also registered the ninth-most victories at the No. 2 singles position of anyone in the conference. She was rewarded at the end of the season with a spot on the A-Sun All-Freshman team.
Von Stryk continued her success as a senior under Keiner’s direction, finishing the 2015 season with a 15-5 singles record and a 4-2 mark in league play en route to an All-Atlantic Sun first team selection. Her 15 singles victories are tied for the 10th-most in a single season in school history and her 47 career wins rank ninth all-time at Upstate.
Keiner also helped produce the eighth Spartan in the last seven years to earn a spot on the A-Sun All-Freshman Team, as rookie Nona Ruppert accomplished the feat after turning in eight singles victories playing primarily from the No. 2 position.
Keiner is no stranger to Spartanburg, having come to Upstate after serving as the head women's tennis coach at nearby Converse College from 2011-13. In addition to her time coaching on the court, she also organized team fundraisers and community service projects for the program.
Prior to her stint at Converse, Keiner served as an assistant women's tennis coach at Cincinnati from 2008-2011. She helped coach the team to three straight Big East tournament appearances. She was the recruiting coordinator for the 2011-12 recruiting class and helped lead the community service projects for the Bearcats.
She began her career as a coach and instructor in 2009, serving as a tennis and spinning instructor at the Western Tennis and Fitness Center in Cinciannti.
Keiner was a standout tennis player in college. She began her career at Washburn University where she posted an 18-10 singles record and 15-8 doubles mark en route to earning all-conference honors in 2005-06. She transferred to Cincinnati in 2006 and played primarily at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions, posting the best singles record on the team in 2007-08. She was also a standout academically and earned Dean's List honors at both Cincinnati and Washburn.
