John Caddell begins his first season as a volunteer assistantcoach at his alma mater. Prior to making his return toSpartanburg, Caddell was a volunteer assistant at CampbellUniversity in Buies Creek, N.C.
During his time at Campbell, the Camels earned a berth in theAtlantic Sun baseball tournament (2008) and the team increased itswin total each season. He worked primarily with theinfielders and in 2009, the team posted a fielding percentage markof .966, the best in the A-Sun and highest for Campbell since the1999 season.
Caddell, a native of Apex, N.C., was a four-year starter atshortstop for Coach Fincher from 2004-07. The 2007 graduateended his career as the programs all-time leader in hits, runsscored, walks, games played and at-bats. During his juniorseason, Caddell drove in the game-winning run in a victory over No.6 Francis Marion (5/4/06), helping Upstate clinch a spot in thePeach Belt Conference Tournament for the first time since1993. Caddell’s record-setting 241st careerhit came in the bottom of the ninth inning against Columbus Statein the 2007 PBC Tournament.
