Justin Crew is in his second season as an assistant coach withthe men’s soccer program at USC Upstate. He will assist inall phases of the program.
Crew came to Upstate after serving as the head coach at OlivetNazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill., the last five seasons. Asa head coach, he compiled a 58-34-8 overall record and led theTigers to one Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC)Tournament championship and one appearance in the NAIA NationalTournament. He also coached two players who went on to playprofessional soccer; Cory Miller, who played for the CarolinaRailhawks in the NASL in 2011 and who is currently a member of theLa Blues in the USL Pro League, and Josh Ayers, who played forCentro Deportivo Olmedo in Ecuador’s National League in2011.
Crew enjoyed tremendous success at Olivet Nazarene. Afterserving as a graduate assistant coach at the university from2006-07, he took over the program as the interim head coach in2007. He led the Tigers to a 13-8-1 record and an appearance in theNational Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) NationalTournament. He led the 2008 squad to the program’s first-everNAIA national Top 25 ranking after a 10-3-5 overall record.
Behind the play of Miller and Ayers, Crew was named the NCCAACo-Regional Coach of the Year after leading the 2009 Tigers to a15-7-0 overall record, the CCAC Tournament championship and anappearance in the NAIA National Tournament. He led the 2010 and2011 squads to semifinal appearances in the conference tournamentand combined for 20 wins during the two seasons.
In all, Crew had several student-athletes earn individual honorsfor their play on the field. He had 11 first-team all-conferenceselections, five second-team all-conference picks, twoAll-Americans, three Honorable mention All-Americans and 11 NAIAScholar-Athlete selections.
Crew played for Olivet Nazarene and graduated in 2001 with abachelor’s degree in Social Work. He earned a master’sdegree in Organizational Leadership from the university in 2008. Inaddition to his coaching career at Olivet Nazarene, he also was astaff member for the Illinois State ODP and Soccer Academy SoccerSchools of Excellence. He and his wife, Jill, have two children,Ethan and Karlee.
