Natalie Sweeney serves as the Athletics Academic Advisor at USC Upstate, bringing a dynamic background in higher education advising and collegiate athletics. A former Division I student-athlete and seasoned basketball coach, Sweeney blends academic expertise with firsthand knowledge of the student-athlete experience.
Since 2022, she has worked at USC Upstate as an Academic Advisor and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Exercise Science. In that role, she supported over 150 students, organized life skills workshops and career fairs, and taught courses such as Principles of Coaching and Coaching the Mind/Body Connection. Her commitment to student development and her familiarity with the Upstate campus make her a valuable asset to Spartan Athletics.
Prior to her time at USC Upstate, Sweeney held assistant coaching positions in women’s basketball at Presbyterian College, Transylvania University, and the University of Illinois Springfield. Beyond coaching, she also played a key role in academic support, team operations, and summer camp programming.
A native of the collegiate athletics world, Sweeney competed as a women’s basketball student-athlete at Morehead State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Health and Physical Education. She later completed a Master of Education in Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
