Nick Hoffman enters his fifth season on the USC Upstate baseball coaching staff in 2027 and his first serving as the program's recruiting coordinator. Hoffman joined the Spartans as an assistant coach ahead of the 2023 season after being announced to the coaching staff on August 11, 2022.
During Hoffman's four seasons with the program, USC Upstate has established itself as one of the Big South's most consistent programs, advancing to the Big South Tournament Championship Game in each season while capturing back-to-back tournament championships and NCAA Regional appearances in 2025 and 2026.
In 2026, Hoffman helped guide the Spartans to their second consecutive Big South Tournament Championship and NCAA Regional appearance. Upstate finished the season with 34 victories and earned the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional, the highest NCAA Regional seed in program history.
The Spartans continued making history in Tuscaloosa, earning the program's first NCAA Tournament victory with an 8-5 win over No. 2 seed Oklahoma State. Upstate received strong performances on the mound from its pitching staff, including starter Brent Stukes, who struck out six, and Max Bianchini, who tossed three scoreless innings of relief. Following a mound visit from Hoffman with the bases loaded in the eighth inning, Bianchini induced an inning-ending groundout to escape the threat before Jacob Kirby closed out the historic victory.
In 2025, Hoffman helped Upstate capture the first Big South regular-season and tournament championships in program history as the Spartans finished 36-25 overall and 19-5 in Big South play. The championships earned Upstate its first NCAA Division I Tournament appearance as the Spartans competed in the NCAA Clemson Regional.
Upstate's pitching staff proved instrumental during its run through the 2025 Big South Baseball Championship. Spartan pitchers allowed just 15 hits across three tournament games, culminating in a 14-2 victory over Charleston Southern in the championship game. Chris Torres earned the victory in the title game while Braden Consaul recorded the save as the Spartans completed their championship run.
In 2024, Upstate captured 36 victories, giving the program a fourth consecutive season with 35 or more wins and extending the longest such streak in program history at the time. The Spartans also returned to the Big South Tournament Championship Game for the second consecutive season.
Working with the team's pitchers and catchers, Hoffman helped the Spartan backstops throw out 13 would-be base stealers while the battery defense picked off 13 runners, stopping 26 potential base stealers during the season. The Upstate pitching staff also struck out a then-program-record 510 hitters, eclipsing the program's single-season str
