Scott Smith joined USC Upstate Athletics in 2025 as the Assistant Athletic Director for Video and Digital Strategy. In this role, he oversees all video production, creative content and digital storytelling initiatives for the Spartans. Additionally, he will be responsible for elevating the department’s visual identity across social media, in-venue productions, and digital platforms.

Smith comes to Hub City following a season with the Fredericksburg Nationals, the Single-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, where he produced and edited multimedia content that boosted fan engagement and significantly grew the team’s digital presence. His leadership on the team’s TikTok account generated over 122,000 post views and a 150% increase in followers.

Before his time in minor league baseball, Smith served as the Assistant Director of Creative Media for the University of Houston Football program. There, he had responsibility for videography and drone operations while producing content that amassed more than 1.3 million views across social platforms. He also collaborated closely with the Cougars’ coaching and recruiting staff to create dynamic content for prospective student-athletes.

Smith began his collegiate athletics career at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he was a Creative Video Graduate Assistant for Golden Eagle Athletics. He played a central role in developing the department’s in-house streaming platform, SouthernMade TV, serving as a videographer, editor, and lead producer for long-form features and documentary-style programming.

A native of Virginia, Smith earned his bachelor’s degree in Communication and Digital Studies with a minor in Sports Management from the University of Mary Washington in 2022, graduating cum laude. At UMW he participated for the Men's Ultimate team that made the national championship tournament in 2021. He later earned his master’s degree in Sport Management, along with a certificate in Sport Security Management, from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2024.
