Thomas Mandell

Thomas Mandell joins USC Upstate men’s basketball as an assistant coach in August 2026, most recently serving as an assistant coach at Mercy University. At Mercy, Mandell worked extensively in player development, scouting, recruiting evaluation and team operations while also assisting with the program’s academic efforts.
Mandell also spent more than a year as an assistant coach with Sandhills Machine Youth Basketball, where he helped organize practices, lead player development efforts and assist with game planning and in-game adjustments. His coaching experience also includes working at numerous summer basketball camps at programs across the country, including Alabama, Southern Miss, Shaw and Emory.
A former collegiate student-athlete, Mandell played at Mercy University and Penn State Berks. He was a two-time team captain at Mercy and represented the men’s basketball program on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. Mandell earned his bachelor’s degree in history education from Mercy in 2025 and completed his master’s degree in organizational leadership in August 2026.
