USC Upstate Athletics Hall of Fame Nomination Form

The USC Upstate Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1998 to recognize individuals who have outstanding athletic accomplishments or have made significant contributions to USC Upstate athletics. The first class of inductees was in 1999.
 
Purpose
The USC Upstate Athletics Hall of Fame was created to recognize and honor individuals and teams who have made exceptional contributions to the department’s success throughout the University’s history. Members are selected annually by the Hall of Fame Selection Committee from nominations submitted by alumni, staff and friends of the University.
 
Eligibility
Student-Athlete
  • A former student-athlete is eligible to be considered for the USC Upstate Athletics Hall of Fame following a waiting period of five years after his/her graduation from USC Upstate.
  • The student-athlete must have completed graduation.
  • Exceptions to this requirement include those student-athletes who were drafted or signed to play professionally prior to graduation, or those student-athletes who elected to serve in a branch of the United States Armed Forces before graduation.
  • To be considered the student-athlete must have participated a minimum of two seasons of competition for USC Upstate.
  • If the nominee left college early per one of the exceptions noted above, he/she must have left in good standing.
 
Coach/Administrator
  • A coach or administrator is eligible one year following their departure from USC Upstate either through retirement, by accepting a position with another school, or changing professions.
  • He/She must have coached or worked for a minimum of five seasons for USC Upstate.
  • He/She must have made exceptional contributions to the tradition of excellence of the USC Upstate athletic program.
  • He/She must have modeled good character and citizenship before, during and after his/her employment with the University.
 
Contributor
  • An alumnus or other individual who made significant contributions to the success of the USC Upstate athletic program through works or service.
  • Financial contributions may be considered but should not be the sole reason for selection of an individual.
  • May be selected at any time the Selection Committee feels is appropriate.
  • Will be awarded the Bob and Dodie Anderson Award.
    • Recognizes an alumnus or other individual who has gone above and beyond in their support of USC Upstate athletics.
 
Criteria for Consideration
The following is a list of criteria that will be considered when reviewing nominations for the Hall of Fame.
  1. Graduation from USC Upstate.
  2. National or regional athletic honors.
  3. Conference athletic honors.
  4. Achievements such as regular season championships, conference titles, NCAA/NAIA postseason appearances and postseason success.
  5. Extraordinary performance on the court or playing field.
  6. National and conference academic honors.
  7. Contributions to society and/or the business, government or educational community.
  8. Success in chosen career.
  9. Level of support of USC Upstate athletics.
  10. Community service.
 
Selection Committee
The selection committee will review the nominations submitted each year and make its selections for the Athletics Hall of Fame class. There shall be no set number of inductees as that will be determined year-to-year upon the available pool of nominations.
 
The selection committee will consist of a minimum of five (5) and a maximum of nine (9) members that includes current and former USC Upstate athletic department staff, alumni, and University supporters.
 
Selection Process
At least 66 percent of the Committee must vote for the ballot to be valid. A nominee must receive at least a majority of the Committee’s votes in order to be inducted.

If a nominee has not been selected after seven years of being nominated, he/she will be removed from consideration.
 
Recognition
An annual Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony shall be held each year for the purpose of recognizing the inductees. Each inductee will be presented a trophy/plaque for personal display. In addition to the dinner and induction ceremony, USC Upstate Athletics shall celebrate the Hall of Fame classes publicly through promotions and stories on its website, in person at a game, and through various other means.
