
Schneider Qualifies for PGA Tour Q School

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Former USC Upstate golfer Ian Schneider, who helped the Spartans to a second-place finish in the 2007 NCAA Division II National Championships, finished in a tie for 27th at a pre-qualifying tournament for the PGA Q School and has advanced to the first stage of qualifying for the PGA Tour.
Schneider, from Charlotte, N.C., shot rounds of 71, 72, 66 and 73 to finish at 6-under par after four rounds at the 6,906-yard, par-72 Cypresswood Golf Club in Spring, Tex. The top 72 players in the field qualified for the first stage of PGA Tour Q School qualifying. He will receive his first stage assignment on Oct. 1.
Schneider made four birdies in his first round to finish with a 1-under 71 and shot even par in the second round. He opened his third round with an eagle on the first hole, a 514-yard par-5, and birdied two more holes to go out at 32, 4-under on the front nine. He birdied two more holes on the back nine and finished the round bogey-free to card a 66, placing himself in strong contention for a spot in the Q School. He carded a 73 in his final round and secured a spot in the Q School with a 6-under total.
Schneider had three top 10 finishes for Upstate in 2006-07 and turned in a solid performance in the 2007 NCAA National Championships, finishing tied for 21st out of 105 players. He helped lead Upstate to the brink of a national championship when the Spartans posted a final round 289 to move to within one stroke of national champion Barry.
