
Tucker Pushes Upstate To Lead At Stono Cup

Charleston, S.C. - Tyler Tucker turned in a tremendous 36 holes Monday, finishing the day 3-under-par and in a tie for second individually to lead the USC Upstate men's golf team to the 36-hole lead by six strokes at the Stono Cup played at the Links at Stono Ferry.
Tucker shot a 2-under, 70, in the first round on the 6,616-yard, par-72 course. He came back in the afternoon and shot 1-under, 71, to finish the day at 141 and in a tie for second place with Gardner-Webb's Ryan Bell. Stephen F. Austin's Kyle Robbins leads the tournament after posting 66-71 for a 7-under score.
Tucker's fast start helped Upstate take the tournament lead heading into Tuesday's final round. Upstate opened the tournament with a 293 and was in second place behind Gardner-Webb when the second round started. Paced by Tucker and getting strong play from all players, Upstate posted a 1-under, 287, in the second round to vault into the lead at 580. Gardner-Webb is in second at 586.
Stephen F. Austin trails Upstate by seven shots entering the final round after turning in a 587, 36-hole total. James Madison is fourth at 588 and is followed in the eight-team event by College of Charleston (591), Belmont (593), Tennessee Tech (6-5) and Wofford (608).
Tucker was not the only Spartan to play well Monday. Josh Gallman turned in an even-par 144 total after shooting 71 and 73 on the day. He is tied for sixth. Michael Lawrence is in position to finish in the top-10, currently standing in a tie for ninth at 145. He shot a 1-under 71 in the second round. Baxter Culler is tied for 19th after shooting 78-72 for a 150 total, while Jamie Lightsey is 37th after shooting 84-76 for a 160 total.
The final round will be unique as the eight men's teams will join the eight women's teams on the course with two men players and two women players playing in each foursome.
