SPARTANBURG, S.C. - After the team's first win of the season on Monday against the Charleston Southern Lady Bucs, the USC Upstate Spartan women will play the College of Charleston on Friday, Aug. 29, at 7:30 p.m. at County University Soccer Stadium. The game will be immediately following the 5 p.m. men's game against Brewton Parker as part of a home double header.
Although the Spartans have yet to play the Charleston Cougars, the game is expected to be a competitive one. The Cougars are coming off a weekend sweep of A-Sun Conference opponents, North Florida and Jacksonville, whom the Spartans will face the weekend of Sept. 26 to Sept. 28. Freshman Hope Atkinson leads the team with two goals and four points, and senior Megan Manthey has three assists and three points.
The Spartans will then travel to High Point, N.C., on Sunday to take on the High Point Panthers at 2 p.m. The Panthers have nineteen players returning from last year's squad and began the 2008 season with a one-one tie against Wofford.
After Sunday's game, the Upstate women will not resume play until Sept. 12, when they will act as the host school for the Carolinas Border Classic Tournament.
