
Men's Tennis Wraps Up First Day Of USC Upstate Fall Tournament

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Sophomore Nico Ospina (Bogota, Colombia/S.E. de Manizales) won both his singles and doubles match to open his play at the USC Upstate Fall Tennis Tournament on Friday at Wofford College's Reeves Tennis Complex.
Ospina, who played in just seven total matches as a freshman, was part of an abbreviated contingent of two Spartans competing in the four-team field. Playing in the Murray bracket, Ospina played catch-up to down USC Aiken's Edward Horne in his first match, winning 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals of the bracket, where he faces Presbyterian's Patrick Fediuk at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
In doubles play, Ospina with senior partner Leandro Osorio (Quillota, Chile/Subercaseaux) went the distance to win their opening-round match, 9-8 (5) over Bruno Seves and Christopher Kaetz of USC Aiken.
Osorio lost his first singles match in the Federer bracket, falling in three sets to Wofford's Paul Bartholomy, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.
The Spartans and the rest of the field will wrap up play on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Reeves Complex.
