
Upstate Stands Third After 36 Holes At Sea Trail

Sunset Beach, N.C. - Tyler Tucker turned in his second straight solid round of golf, finishing with a 1-over 73 to lead the USC Upstate men's golf team to a 295 team score as the Spartans are in a battle for second place after 36 holes at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate Saturday afternoon.
Upstate is currently third in the tournament with a 593 total after shaving three stokes off of its round yesterday. Upstate trails second place Belmont Abbey by a stroke, and leads Tennessee Tech and Guilford by a shot. All of the teams are chasing Murray State, which will take a 14-stroke lead into the final round of the 54-hole tournament.
Murray State stands at 578 and is followed in the top-10 by Belmont Abbey (592), Upstate (593), Tennessee Tech (594), Guilford (594), Elon (596), Wofford (597), Stetson (597), Radford (599), Appalachian State (599) and Houston Baptist (599).
Tucker's 73 was solid as the Spartans remained in the hunt for a second straight second-place finish to start the 2008-09 season. Upstate finished second at last week's Rutgers Invitational. Tucker stands tied for sixth with a 1-over 145 total.
While Tucker leads the Spartans, Michael Lawrence turned in the round of the day for Upstate. He shaved 10 strokes off of his score from Friday, carding a 70 Saturday to help the Spartan cause. Lawrence is currently tied for 31st at 150. Baxter Culler is the second-lowest Spartan on the leader board, finishing with a 77 Saturday and is tied for 17th with a 147 total.
Jamie Lightsey carded a 75 Saturday and is tied for 59th at 154, while Bryan Otis, the lone freshman in the lineup for Upstate, is tied for 71st at 156 after shooting a 79 Saturday.
Murray State's Hunter Ford leads the tournament with a 3-under 141 total and will carry a one-shot lead over Tennessee Tech's Greyson Painter in to the final round Sunday. The 54-hole tournament will conclude with the final round Sunday.
