Tori Reaches Quarterfinals Of Division II Bracket At Southern Intercollegiates

ATHENS, Ga. - Junior Javier Tori (Lima, Peru/Markham College) has posted another first for the USC Upstate men's tennis team in the Division I era, as he advanced to the quarterfinals in the Division II bracket at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships at the University of Georgia on Saturday.
Tori, who won one match at the Southern Intercollegiates as a sophomore, opened the day with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 win over seven-seed Jacksonville's Jamie Esteban to earn a spot in the third round. In the third round, Tori ground out a three-set, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win against Duke's Luke Marchese.
Tori will face fifth-seeded Richard Cowden of Middle Tennessee State in the quarterfinals at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday at McWhorter with the winner moving on to face the winner of the Jon Wolff (Wake Forest)-Alex DiValerio (Vanderbilt) quarterfinal in the semifinals at approximately 1:30 p.m. The finals will be held on Monday.
