TULSA, Okla. - Seniors Jack Roux and Javier Tori ran into a force on Wednesday afternoon as the USC Upstate men's tennis players fell to 43rd-ranked Dmitry Lebedev and Chris Nott of Arkansas, 8-1, ending their run in the qualifying doubles finals at the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Upstate fell into a quick hole to the Razorbacks' duo, 2-0, but with Roux on serve, the Spartans survived a hard-fought game, winning after fighting off several Arkansas' advantages. That was all they could get against the ninth-seed in the qualifying bracket, though, as the Razorbacks won the next eight games to close out the match with an 8-1 win.
Tori and Roux secured a dramatic 9-8 (5) win over the New Mexico State duo of Jim Brouleau and Arthur Surreaux in the qualifying doubles semifinals on Tuesday evening and the pair started their run by cruising through their first-round match, beating Tulsa's Patrick Collins and Alastair Barnes, 8-2, in the afternoon to set up their evening showdown against Brouleau and Surreaux.
Lebedev and Nott move on to the 32-team main draw, which begins play on Thursday. Roux and Tori will return home to prepare for the ITA Carolina Regionals, which will begin on Friday, Oct. 16.
