
Five Spartans Make Cut At The S.C. Amateur

BLUFFTON, S.C. - Thanks to a tournament-low round of 64 by 2009 South Carolina graduate Mark Anderson, rising senior Josh Gallman was pushed back into a three-way tie for second at the South Carolina Amateur Championship after the second round on Friday at the Berkeley Hall Plantation South Course. Four other current, former, or future USC Upstate men's golfers also made the cut, including rising senior Michael Lawrence, who fired a 3-under par 69, in the second round.
Gallman shot a one-under par 71 in the second round but fell back into second after an eight-under par 64 by two-time South Carolina All-American Mark Anderson pushed him into first with a two-day total of 135. Gallman is tied with Steve Libler and Luke Hopkins for second place with a six-under par 138.
Lawrence shot up the standings from 39th to 20th after shooting a 3-under par 69 to make the cut with a two-day total of 143. Sophomore Brian Horton, after finishing his first round with a score of 3-over par 75 in the first round in the morning, shot a 2-under par 70 in the second round to make the cut. 2009 graduate Baxter Culler shot a one-under par 71 to push his two-day total to a two-over par 146.
Incoming freshman McKenzie Oref, who fired a first-round 72, finished the day tied with Culler after firing a second-round 74, giving the Spartans a four-man contingent for the final two rounds of the tournament.
Jamie Lightsey and Tyler Comer finished their play at the tournament, with Lightsey and Comer both coming in at 11-over par in their two rounds.
