Gallman Advances To Seocnd Stage Of PGA Q School

Kannapolis, N.C. – When former USC Upstate men's golfer Josh Gallman stepped onto the tee to start the final round of the First Stage of PGA Q School at the Club at Irish Creek Friday, he knew that all he needed was a solid round and he would advance to the Second Stage. He did just that, shooting an even-par 71 to finish tied for 15th and advance further into Q School.
Gallman played his fourth and final round of PGA Q School Friday and started the day tied for 14th at 3-under-par. He already knew that the top 23 players and ties would advance to the Second Stage. He has been steady all week long and took it to 5-under with back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh holes. A double bogey on the ninth hole put him back at even for the day and 3-under for the tournament.
He bogeyed the par-4 11th before getting back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th holes. A bogey on the 15th put him back to even for the day and he finished his round with three straight pars to shoot 71. The score was solid enough to finish tied for 15th and earn a spot in the next level of Q School. There are three stages of Q SChool.
Gallman and the other 24 players (with ties) who qualified for the Second Stage tournament at the Club at Irish Creek will join qualifiers from the four other First Stage tournaments this week in waiting for eight remaining tournaments to be held before Second Stage begins. The Second Stage of Q School is slated for six tournaments to be held Nov. 16-20.
Gallman opened the tournament with a 2-over 73 on Tuesday before rallying for a 4-under 67 on his birthday on Wednesday. He shot a 70 on Thursday and was even for his round on Friday to finish the tournament at 3-under.
Fellow former Spartan Michael Lawrence shot his second even-par round of the tournament, finishing with a 71 on Friday. However, he was unable to pick up any positions and finished the tournament in a tie for 56th with a 7-over total. Despite not qualifying for the Second Stage of Q School, Lawrence gained valuable experience as he continues in his development as a professional.
