
Craig Earns A-Sun Newcomer of the Week Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After a stellar performance at the 2010 Charleston Classic, USC Upstate freshman forward Torrey Craig (Rock Hill, S.C./Great Falls HS) has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Newcomer of the Week, the conference office in Macon, Ga., announced today.
The first year Spartan averaged 16.3 ppg and 6.3 rpg to go along in three games in the Charleston Classic. In the opening game, Craig posted career-bests of 13 points and seven rebounds against Wofford, the reigning Southern Conference champions.
On Friday, Craig came off the bench and scored a new career-high of 17 points behind five three pointers against the reigning Big South champions, Coastal Carolina. Craig was the second Spartan to connect on five or more three-pointers in a single game this season.
In the final game of the tournament, Craig scored 19 points and grabbed a career-best eight rebounds on Sunday against East Carolina. Craig, who got his first collegiate start, hit six shots and finished 5-of-6 at the charity stripe.
Craig currently ranks 23rd in the conference with 11.6 ppg and he is tied for eighth in the A-Sun with teammate Tony Dukes (Ellenwood, Ga./Atlanta Metropolitan) with 10 made 3-pointers.
Upstate returns to action tonight as it takes on South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. Tip-off at the Colonial Life Arena is slated for 7:00 p.m.
