
Upstate Takes 4-2 Decision From Tennessee Tech For Fourth Straight Win

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Once again, the USC Upstate men's tennis team's senior pair of Javier Tori and Jack Roux, the winningest players in school history, that provided the engine that helped Upstate to its fourth straight win, a 4-2 decision against Tennessee Tech on Thursday at the Cookeville Indoor Tennis Center.
Tori provided the first win for Upstate (6-4 overall), a 6-3, 6-2 decision against Justin Kirstein at No. 3 singles. After a tough three-set loss at No. 1 singles, sophomore Edgar Rodriguez gutted out a tough three-set win at No. 2 singles, beating Josh Girling, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore Ramiro Blanco followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 over Arturo Santa Cruz and Roux provided the bookend win with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 win over Nick Stafford at No. 4.
Doubles was not played due to the length of the singles matches. Tennessee Tech fell to 3-3.
The Spartans wrap up the weekend with a pair of A-Sun matches, facing Belmont at 1 p.m. on Friday and Lipscomb at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
