Spartans Leave Music City Singing After 6-1 Win Over Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Another solid singles performance that included winning all 10 six-game sets helped the USC Upstate men's tennis team win its sixth straight match on Saturday afternoon to wrap up its Tennessee swing with a perfect 3-0 record as it downed Lipscomb, 6-1, at the brand-new Lipscomb Tennis Complex.
The Spartans (8-4 overall, 4-0 A-Sun) jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a doubles point win, as senior Jack Roux and junior Marco Linconir posted an 8-3 win over Tanner Brown and Colby Shaw at No. 3 and seniors Javier Tori and Renzo Airaldi added an 8-4 win over Daniel Hangstefer and Mario Hernandez at No. 1. Sophomores Ramiro Blanco and Edgar Rodriguez wrapped up the doubles portion with an 8-5 win over James Murrell and Chad Pierron at No. 2.
In singles play, the Spartans kept rolling, with Roux notching a 6-0, 6-1 win over Murrell at No. 1. At No. 5, Linconir won his second career singles match, 6-1, 6-0, over Brown. Blanco added a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hernandez at No. 4 and Tori posted his 70th career singles win, 6-1, 6-3, over Pierron at No. 2. Rodriguez rounded out Upstate's scoring with his 60th career combined win, 6-4, 6-4, over Hangstefer.
The Spartans will now head off on Spring Break with a trip to California, playing three games in the Golden State, starting with a Thursday match against San Diego at 1 p.m. The team will also play Loyola Marymount on Frday at 1:30 p.m. before wrapping up the trip on Sunday at No. 51 UC Irvine at 9 a.m.
